Remembering The Purple Crackle

The Purple Crackle was a famous Illinois supper club across the Mississippi River from Cape Girardeau, MO. Here's a great story about the history of the night club scene in Southern Illinois and the Crackle in particular, by TJ Greaney of the Southeast Missourian.

I am 48 years old. My dad grew up in McClure IL. I grew up in Cape. Our family traveled many miles across the old Cape bridge going to visit my grandparents. A lot of times going by the Crackle.

When I turned 21, I went there to find out about the mystery I had heard about all the years I was a kid. WOW! Suddenly I understood my dad and I was happy to be his son.
